I would file this program under “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. Unless you have recently added hardware and for some reason a driver was not included I can’t see a lot of reasons to mess with your drivers. If your system is running fine, be happy. Besides you only want to update your drivers from the company that made your hardware. Then on top of that, it’s only a six months license? I’m not installing anything that is only good for six months. I would just have to uninstall it so why bother? I greatly appreciate the offer but I will pass.Comment by dadams — January 14th, 2015 at 3:32 am Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+45) Reply
I totally have to agree with dadams! Besides, there are other driver updater software out there, that is also cheaper!Comment by Bill — January 14th, 2015 at 3:54 am Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)
I didn’t catch the “time limited” part.
Guess will be sticking with the Free version I have on a couple of older computers. Like I stated below, this isn’t my first source for drivers, but it’s hard to find these for some older ones, and Slim Drivers has messed up a couple of installs of mine. Not again. Also am not thrilled having to run IObit’s software, but their Free Driver Booster is great for when needed.

I suppose you are ne here. That phrase has been for many years. It means you have 24 hours to download, install and register the giveaway. After tomorrow morning 08:00 GMT yoiu cannot download, install nor activate anymore.
In most cases you can use the giveaway as long as you like. Today we have a licence for “6 months”. That is 159 days. See my screen shot at https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1122113/giveawayoftheday/2015Q1/20150114_08_DriverBooster.pngComment by krypteller — January 14th, 2015 at 4:29 am Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-3)
krypteller, I was referring to how long it lasts, already have the Free version on a couple of computers. Being that the Pro doesn’t offer a lot more, and I consider the cleaner extra more or less a registry cleaner, I can keep the free versions & pass on this one.Comment by Cat Tilley — January 14th, 2015 at 5:04 am Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)
I tend to disagree, having used many IOBIT products in the past.
The company has made much improvement over the years, with their products. Some have left larger footprints (consuming memory excessively), while others have taken hours to do a full scan when it comes to antivirus software.
However there has come a lot of good out of these programs. I used Driver Booster since it was first introduced, and have not once had a problem with the drivers that were upgraded; on any operating system covered, nor on any device IOBIT software works on. From desktops, laptops, and handheld portables, never an issue.
As for them offering a 6 month license for this version; I’d prefer 1 year.
Going to IOBIT’s website is in fact a much better deal, if someone wants to pay more, for 1 year and it does cover 3 devices, not 1.
As for this offer from GOTD, if one wants to take the application for a spin, I think it’s a good deal.
Was reading recently that drivers were the biggest cause of the BSOD until Microsoft issued guidelines regarding their design, so be careful and make sure you get the correct ones from the correct source.
When first offered here October 2013 the price was less than $30 now it is just short of $75 and only yesterday I was reading about deflation.:-)
Think I’ll give it a miss!Comment by XP-Man — January 14th, 2015 at 3:49 am Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+18) Reply
If you go directly to I0 bit’s link in the freeby or one you get today in six months you’ll find that the actual ptice for one-year is acually $22.95 or if you’d rather, scroll to the bottom and download the free version again.. Like they say, paying retail is for dummies.. The site itself proves that.. Third party sellers are out for your blood.Comment by unkabob — January 14th, 2015 at 5:50 am Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)
I have used this from previous giveaways and it works well and so far, without any issues.
Looks like a time limited licence as it says that I have 159 days left.Comment by PhilS — January 14th, 2015 at 3:49 am Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5) Reply
There are many times, with older computers, that drivers cannot be found. Just their Free version will find & install drivers w/no obligation, but the Pro version offers more.
This isn’t my mainline source for drivers, however there are times when there’s not much of a choice. Many of the others, some of which are worse, isn’t free, other free sites, such Driver Max, limites drivers to two per day.
This app is much better than Slim Drivers, it’s closest alternative. Will have to go with this one, for the Pro features.Comment by Cat Tilley — January 14th, 2015 at 3:57 am Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2) Reply
Installed and registered without problems on a Win 8.1.3 Pro 64 bit system.
The installer wants to install additional software (advanced system care). You can deny it.
We had a previous version 1.5 on September 2, 2014 and on August 27, 2014. Here are the old reviews:
I’ll test only two questions – which drivers from where. Read my old review.
As I wrote several times, I have a new installed system on a new computer. Installation date with the up-to-date Windows installer was about one month ago.
The program detects after a first scan
“extremely old drivers”… Of course, they want to show, that it is a good thing to purchase the full version.
I “updated” and extremely old driver. Update failed:
The software does not contact the original driver manufacturer.
If you use this tool, you should know, what you are doing. I prefer the updates from the official sites. (see my last comment)
Uninstalled via reboot. I don’t have obsolete drivers in my brand new system.Comment by Karl — January 14th, 2015 at 3:59 am Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+30) Reply
I tried this the last giveaway and it said my audio drivers were out of date. I allowed it to update them and then my sound didn’t work. I changed them back via system restore and the sound came back. I kept it installed but it kept booting at start, even changing the launch at start option. Windows 8′s msconfig which is in the task manager couldn’t stop it nor could WinPatrol so I uninstalled it. I won’t try it again unless I read that it’s vastly improved. The best premium driver update software I have owned via a giveaway was Driver Magician but it’s pretty easy to do it myself so I never purchased after it expired.Comment by SoftwareJunkie — January 14th, 2015 at 4:14 am Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+13) Reply
I have used this before, while it works, its damned annoying. It keeps trying to suggest I download drivers that I know just will not work on my computers, it tells me every time I boot up, it stays loaded just to tell me, so, in the end, I deleted it. I will not use it ever again, there are times when a program can be just too useful, this is one of those times. Like others have said, if it aint broke, don’t fix it, so why then repeat the message that some drivers are outdated (when they are not) constantly?
As the owner of the computer(s) … it should the right of that person to decide when and if they wish to update drivers, NOT some annoying upstart of a program that thinks it knows better than the human.
I haven’t mentioned the mistakes it makes, drivers that I know just will not work on my systems, but then, this program is useful if you have just installed an OS on a system and windows cannot find drivers for it, this one can, to a point, so its useful as far as that goes, you should then remove it from your system.
If not for that, I’d say this would be a keeper, but its not, its a deleter. Just be aware that some drivers it says will work, just do don;t. Sound card and network card drivers, and in one case, a video driver.
Only install this if you don’t mind being treated like a child with constant messages that your drivers are out of date and your system could be in danger of crashing ….Comment by Henk Van Helmond — January 14th, 2015 at 4:14 am Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+12) Reply
A reliable option is to go the manufacturer’s driver update page for verifying and downloading the drivers. But some driver update utilities make things easy as well as complicated sometimes.
Frankly speaking I haven’t used my driver updater program since april 2013 but there’s no issues related to any outdated driver till now.
But before that When I had been trying to update using some of the well known programs I saw a variations in their scanned results and recommended update versions.
I tried following commercial programs
1) Driver Magician
2) Driver Reviver
3) Driver Genius Pro
5) Driver Navigator
Except Driver Navigator the other Programs couldn’t locate the downloaded driver in the explorer so that I can keep the file and try to install later manually.
Even Driver Navigator was able to find the more recent version of some of the drivers compared to Drivermax. Unfortunately The trial version of Driver Navigator only scans and displays outdated drivers, can not download , fix and update them in trial mode.
But I am mostly annoyed with the fact that these all have a tendency to recommend and update to a version which is (sometimes) incompatible with the system thereby wasting time and data.
One more thing the ‘backup and Restore’ feature of some of the programs were found to be pathetic. They will give you the options to restore one or more drivers from their own backup but after reboot the restore won’t take effect . I checked it several times but everytime I had to use my Driver CD to fix it. So where’s the point to include such feature ?
About Today’s Program which I haven’t used but I have seen two of my friends using this . They were impressed by it but to me all the programs are impressive but the effectiveness of these programs lie somewhere else.Comment by Jahid — January 14th, 2015 at 4:18 am Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+7) Reply
Oddly enough, I’d just done a scan with the older GAOTD version that told me that all my drivers were up-to-date. Now I’m told that 17 of them need to be replaced!!!!!
I have no confidence in a product that is either transparently lying, or simply wrong, at $75, $30, or free.
I have the PRO Version 2.0 of this software.
Don’t change drivers unless you have to.
Don’t be fooled by software telling you your existing drivers are lousy.
My Version 2.0 announces that my drivers are Extremely Bad in red bold font. But my PC runs very well thank you. I ignore it completely. I use it for backing up drivers only.
Some users may wonder what is the difference between the Free Edition and the Pro.
The Free Edition can only do the first two listed below.
Automatically Identify Outdated Drivers
Download and Update Outdated Drivers with One Click
Unlock Driver Update Speed Limit
Specialized Driver Tweaking for Better Gaming Experience
Support More Comprehensive Hardware Devices
Enjoy Priority to Update Outdated Drivers Promptly
Backup Drivers for Safe Restore
Enhance Hardware Functionality for Better Performance
Automatically Update to the Latest Version
Free 24/7 Technical Support on Demand
In order to back up and restore drivers you need the PRO version.
Please note that Backup command is well hidden and it takes some finding.
You click on the reverse wheel arrow icon called “Rescue”.
A new Window opens.
Click on Backup and a new screen appears showing only the non-windows drivers.
You can then back this up for future restore.
Actually I have used the even older Pre 2-0 versions, which are better.
In the old version, you can choose to back up ALL drivers and not just the non-Windows drivers. You really would not want to install your Windows drivers from the CD-Roms all over again. So this is a classic case of newer is not better. The programmers took something out.
I got this program in a christmas giveaway with a 1 year license about one month ago. Nearly forgot about it. Started it today and it found 4 outdated Adobe drivers: Air, Flash Player Active X, Flash Player NPAPI and Shockwave.
Driver Booster 2.1 replaced my outdated audio drivers at first usage in december too, afterswards I had no sound. Because it switched the playback driver, as I found out. Switching back to my standard playback driver did the trick. No need for a system restore. :-)Comment by Klein Fritzchen — January 14th, 2015 at 5:05 am Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2) Reply
I always read the comments on these pages, which i find useful most of the time. There are several posters i always make sure i read, i won’t name them but i’m sure you all know who i mean!
There is a phrase that seems to be used more and more these days, and i just wonder if somebody might explain what it means? the phrase is “Uninstalled Via Reboot” How do you do this, and is it better than un-installing using Revo Un-installer? I’m sorry ifthis sounds like a silly question, but i always find that if you don’t ask you usually never get to know!
Thanks in advance fellow GOTDers,
